    I'll never build a fence with wood posts again. I got 16.5 years out of my last one (reasonable lifespan I think). It blew down during Hurricane Beryl a few weeks ago (in Houston). I found a stub of a post from the old chain link fence that I removed to put up the wood fence [galvanized steel from 1955] that still looks very solid. I'll use galvanized metal posts from here on. Also planning to use stainless steel fasteners on next fence. Pickets on old fence used stainless nails and they looked brand new after 16.5 years.

      Great to hear, I like to use a fence tie to tie the chain link to the grade of the top rail, that keeps the angle to the dangle as I say in one of my other videos. Thank for viewing, I am glad to have helped out.

    Wanted to say I enjoy your videos . I've been building fence for almost 40 years. Mostly chain link. Don't really care to do wood fences. But I was gonna mention that if you don't know if your chain link will weave or work with an existing chAin link ,like in this video , just count the diamonds start at the top with a full diamond and count down. Usually it ll be anywhere between 18 -20 1/2 diamonds. Just so long as they're the same amount on both, they ll weave or work with each other. No problem. IDC if you're using 6 GA and trying to weave it with 12 1/2 ga itll work. Just as long as they have the same amount of diamonds. Hope that helps someone.

    Not much of a magic trick. Yes it does work but looks like crap. I'm not sure I'd want to pay you for this job. Much better is a 1 foot or so of 1-1/2 inch pipe inside (assuming the pipe is 1-5/8) Then center punch 4 areas of the long pipe on each side of the splice so it's snug. You could also apply a little glue to the inside, but it's really not needed.

    We have a double swing gate thats a 12’+ opening. We want to expand to at least a 20’ slide gate on grass. What would the widest we could go would you say? Its a side yard gate. So the opening would need to be enlarged. I think if we went back to the next post that would give us maybe 20’. Would that post need to be replaced if it is now and end post? What would you estimate this would cost to do? Just to give me an idea?

    • @mycharmedunicorn8715
      @mycharmedunicorn8715 3 месяца назад

      Is the cantilever gate cheaper? What would you recommend? It couldnt be electric.

    • @jwthefencer
      @jwthefencer 3 месяца назад

      @@mycharmedunicorn8715 Hello,.. one thing to remember is that you will need at least 21' for the gate to open in to. So for a 20' opening you will need 21' for the gate to slide on. Let me know if I am making sense here,.. As far as the post is concerned, I have sleeved over posts and used them for a gate post. Cantilever gates are a bit more expensive but a way better style of slide gate system especially if you install the nylon wheels for the gate to slide /roll on, the gate should slide / roll like a hot knife through butter. The 20' slide gate system would be a bit more cumbersome to slide along the ground. Your choice though and it all depends on how much money you are willing to spend. I hope this helps out,.. thanks for viewing.
